Our confidential contact person

At Little League Netherlands we have set ourselves the goal of working towards a safe sporting climate. That naturally includes a safe environment. In keeping with our culture, we want you to feel free to say what you think and to be who you are. We also want all of us to feel free to speak up about unwanted behaviour — without hurting each other, of course. Part of offering a safe climate is appointing a confidential contact person.

Who am I?

“I am Erika Dechamps, the confidential contact person within Little League Netherlands. In that role I am the first point of contact for everyone involved in the Dutch Little League Championship — players, parents, spectators, volunteers — who has a complaint or a question about the way we treat each other. I listen, give advice where I can and, where needed, act as the go-between for those involved and the confidential adviser or integrity manager of the KNBSB, the Dutch baseball and softball federation. You can come to me with any question if you are unsure about the behaviour of teammates, coaches or others.”

You can ask me about…

Bullying and being bullied.

Discrimination and intimidation: feeling excluded because of your skin colour, religion or sexual orientation.

Inappropriate behaviour: any behaviour that makes someone feel uncomfortable. This can be about the way you are approached or touched by a teammate, a parent or a coach. Or when you suspect that someone close to you is experiencing this.

The way your child is treated within the team.

The way you, as a coach or team official, treat the members of your team.

The way people treat each other within the team: think of messages in group chats or on social media that worry you.

You can also contact me if you have been directly or indirectly accused of unacceptable behaviour.

How confidential is it?

As confidential contact person I am bound by confidentiality. That means I do not pass on information about you to anyone without having talked it through with you first. An exception can be made when the matter concerns a criminal offence.

Rather talk to someone outside the organisation?

If you would rather speak to someone further removed from the organisation, you can turn to the reporting centre of NOC*NSF, the Dutch Olympic Committee and sports federation.
