Little League began in 1939 in Williamsport, where Carl Stotz established a youth league with the goal of allowing children to play baseball in an accessible and enjoyable way. What started with three teams quickly grew into a global phenomenon.
In 1947, the first Little League World Series was held, a tournament that today attracts millions of viewers each year and brings together teams from around the world.
The Dutch Little League Championship (NK Little League) has been organized annually since 2001. More than 55 baseball and softball teams, consisting of players between the ages of 11 and 16, compete during the Pentecost weekend at three locations for the national title and qualification for the European championships.
Both worldwide and in the Netherlands, Little League symbolizes enjoyment, development, and international connection — a unique combination of sport, education, and experience for young athletes.
