The NK Little League 2025 at Gryphons Rosmalen, Amsterdam Pirates and BSC Almere. This year the Whitsun weekend fell in… As always we were looking forward to the Whitsun weekend. The NK Little League 2025 at Gryphons Rosmalen, Amsterdam Pirates and BSC Almere. This year the Whitsun weekend fell in June, so we were hoping for good weather again. Sadly it was anything but. It became the wettest edition ever! The 58 teams had put in fine programmes in the months before the championship. They were looking forward to taking on the other regions and showing what they were made of. We were ready at every venue too. The many club volunteers had worked very hard again to have everything ready in time for the first day of play. We went for it and hoped the rain would not be too bad. ## Saturday In Almere we were able to start, and on the first day most teams got through the programme, although it was very hard work for the field crew. In Rosmalen, with the Baseball Intermediates and Seniors, things went wrong immediately. After a lot of rain overnight and even more in the morning, we could not even start the games there and had to tell all the teams that the first day was cancelled altogether. That had never happened before in the history of the NKLL! In Amsterdam, where the Baseball Littles and Juniors were playing, the Juniors games could just about be played with some improvisation. A big advantage of the Amsterdam Pirates grounds is that the baseball fields have artificial turf, which meant we could play the Juniors schedule there. The softball fields were completely flooded, so the Littles teams could not get going on the first day either. What a disappointment! For teams, parents and supporters. And for the umpires and host clubs too! While the teams headed home or back to their accommodation, the organisers set to work on a plan for the coming days, for the rest of the tournament. Thinking hard about how best to fill the next 2 days. Our aim, of course, was to let the teams play as much as possible and give them the Little League experience. They had all been looking forward to this for so long! A plan was made for the rest of the tournament. The schedules were adjusted. We started calling clubs in the region and discussed the options for moving games. Help was offered from every corner of the country. Grounds were made available, volunteers were rounded up to open the clubhouse, fields were prepared. Truly wonderful! ## Sunday The result of all the phone calls, meetings and arranging on Saturday was that we fortunately had a new plan for Sunday. Just as well, because the rain kept falling and the fields stayed very wet. The Baseball Littles could move to HCAW, the Intermediates were welcomed at JRC Ducks and the Seniors travelled to Starlights for a number of games. In Almere conditions were poor too, and the Softball Seniors moved to Zuidvogels. Umpires and UICs travelled along with the teams to keep everything running smoothly. Wonderful that everyone was so flexible! Coaches and parents were understanding too and switched quickly along with us. How glad we were of all the help, all the offers, the thinking along and the effort of all the clubs in the region. Hugely valuable! And fantastic to experience how willing everyone was to pitch in. All to make sure the teams could play as much as possible. Because Sunday in Almere was very bad, we sadly still had to cancel a fair number of softball games for the Littles and Juniors there. We were very sorry about that but it could not be avoided. Hopefully we can let these girls play everything again at the next edition. ## Monday Thanks to the adjusted schedules, Monday was still a full day of play. Fortunately we got through it dry and were able to play the whole programme. The result was that by the end of the day we again had 7 proud Dutch champions across the leagues! An award to be proud of! We would also like to thank all the clubs and volunteers involved once again for their effort and flexibility. Thanks to them we were able to bring the championship to a good end after all.
